Disculpas a mis lectores del blog. Me tomé un tiempo para coger fuerzas para prepararme para la nueva temporada. También he comenzado a dar clases en una universidad privada de Madrid. Me encanta, ya que enseñar e investigar es para lo que he sido formado. ¡Quisiera agradecer a mis traductores Henrietta y Jon ya que con mucho interés y precisión intentan interpretar mis pensamientos en el precioso lenguaje de Cervantes!
Esta es la época de los absolutistas y los ayatolás maniqueístas desde Alaska a Teherán. Viendo el debate presidencial de Estados Unidos entre el demócrata Joe Biden y la republicana Sarah Palin, uno no puede sino encogerse ante la visión simplista de Palin sobre el mundo, sintetizada por sus declaraciones de que lo que tenemos ahora es una guerra entre el bien (Estados Unidos) y el mal (¡Irán, al Qaeda y diversos terroristas chiflados!). Esta afirmación está en bastante consonancia con la famosa aserción de George W. Bush «si no estás con nosotros entonces estás contra nosotros.»
Palin, la ayatolá de Alaska, no es muy diferente del Ahmadinejad de Irán, quien define a los Estados Unidos como el «Gran Satán», en concordancia con su principal profesor Ayatolá Khomeini.
Oriente Medio está hoy en día lleno de ayatolás, sayids o mullahs quienes tienen una fácil respuesta ya hecha a la crisis que afecta al mundo árabe e islámico. Dado el fracaso de las ideologías seculares tales como el nacionalismo, capitalismo y socialismo, el Islam, según su interpretación, es la respuesta.
Los líderes religiosos han secuestrado totalmente la política en Oriente Medio desde el Ayatolá Ali Khamenei, el líder supremo de Irán, hasta Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah en Líbano. Dios se ha convertido en un intruso conveniente en la política humana y en la sociedad.
No hay tanta diferencia entre el fundamentalismo cristiano en los Estados Unidos y los evangelistas islámicos en Oriente Medio. Ambos han convertido a Dios en su rehén. ¡Ambos reclaman representar la divina verdad a los temerosos y empobrecidos mortales!
¿Puedes culparles en estos tiempos de crisis económica, caídas de mercados, y miedo de que todos tus ahorros se pierdan en el torbellino del «capitalismo de casino»?
Prepárate, la nueva Edad de las Tinieblas se cierne sobre nosotros. Desde Alaska hasta Irán las respuestas ya hechas se encuentran disponibles. Esto no es más que un síntoma del fracaso tanto en Occidente como en Oriente. La religión se usa como una alternativa fácilmente comprensible a la depravación y el comportamiento antiético en ambos mundos.
Más que un choque de las civilizaciones tenemos una confabulación a través de la división religiosa. Dios está aquí para ayudarnos a responder a nuestras crecientes ansiedades. ¡No estéis asustados, Sarah y Ayatolá Khamenei nos vigilan de cerca y guían nuestros caminos hacia la salvación!

THE AGE OF THE AYATOLLAHS
Apologies are due to my blog readers. I took some time off to energize myself to be ready for the new season. I have also begun teaching at a private university in Madrid. I love it as teaching and research is what I have been trained to do. I would like to thank my translators Henrietta and Jon as they keenly and accurately try to interpret my thoughts in the beautiful language of Cervantes!
This is the age of the absolutist and Manichean ayatollahs all the way from Alaska to Tehran. Watching the U.S. vice presidential debate between Democrat Joe Biden and Republican Sarah Palin one cannot but cringe at Palin’s simplistic worldview synthesized by her assertions that what we have now is a war between good (the U.S.) and evil (Iran, al Qaeda and sundry terrorist loonies!). This is very much in line with George W. Bush’s famous assertion «if you are not with us then you are against us.»
Palin, Alaska’s ayatollah is not too different from Iran’s Ahmadinejad who defines the U.S. as the «Great Satan» in line with his major teacher Ayatollah Khomeini.
The Middle East today is full of ayatollahs, sayyids, mullahs who have an easy and ready-made answer to the crisis affecting the Arab and Islamic world. Given the failure of secular ideologies such as nationalism, capitalism and socialism, Islam, according to their interpretation, is the answer.
Religious leaders have hijacked politics in the Middle East all the way from Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran´s Supreme Leader, to Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon. God has become a convenient interloper in human politics and society.
There is not too much difference between the Christian fundamentalists in the U.S. and the Islamic revivalists in the Middle East. Both have made God as their hostage. Both claim to represent the divine truth to fearful and pauperized mortals!
Can you blame them in these times of financial crashes, falling stock markets, and fear that all your savings will be lost in the maelstrom of «casino capitalism»?
Get ready the new Dark Ages are upon us. From Alaska to Iran ready-made answers are available. This is only but a symptom of failure both in the West and the East. Religion is used as an easy comprehensible alternative to the depravation and unethical behaviour in both worlds.
Rather than a clash of civilizations we have collusion across the religious divide. God is here to help us answer our growing anxieties. Be not afraid, Sarah and Ayatollah Khamenei are watching us closely and guiding our paths towards salvation!
